Joe Kamiya

A biofeedback specialist, Kamiya earned all his degrees from the University of California at Berkeley: the B.A., the M.A., and the Ph.D. in 1954. From 1951 to 1953 he served there as a research assistant then left for the University of Chicago, where he was a faculty member from 1951 to 1960. Raymond Corsini was his first Ph.D. candidate there. Kamiya's career then began at the Langley-Porter Neuropsychianic Institute of the University of California, where he specialized in trained. self-controlled psychophysiological states. He is one of the pioneers of biological control by feedback and has delved deep into sleep and dream research. His current research, which has earned him distinction, involves the psychophysiology of consciousness and heightened awareness; he directs a psychophysiology of consciousness laboratory. He is in the forefront of research in altered states of consciousness and transpersonal consciousness.
